Bioenergy Production and Recovery
Energy can commonly be produced from many different types of organic wastes and materials. Anything waste that has biogenic carbon such as biomass, manure, or food waste can be used as a biosolid in processes like anaerobic digestion to create biogas. Sludge heat exchangers are key in this anaerobic digestion process. They can be used for both the heating or cooling of the raw or digested sludge while also being used for recovery of the energy from the heated sludge.
Other types of energy can also be recovered from wastewater treatment plants including hot air produced by blowers through the use of air/water heat exchangers.
Biosolids & Energy Recovery Products
The Sludge Heat Exchanger (HSW) is a “Tube in Shell” sludge/water heat exchanger used to heat and cool biological sludge. The sludge tubes are a circular cross-section surrounded by rectangular cross-section water channels. The flow of the sludge and the water is cross-current for the highest efficiency. With a cutting-edge design, maintenance is straightforward and manageable. The modular, compact, and proprietary design of the units results in an efficient, economical, and low maintenance energy recovery solution.
The VLV Air/Water Heat Exchanger was originally developed to extend the service life of membranes used in aeration tanks. Among other various applications, the unit also effectively recovers energy from blower-produced hot air streams.
